COURSE OVERVIEW: The Social Impact Speaker Series will
introduce students to a number of leaders within the social impact space.
Speakers will hail from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors and will
include some of the most forward thinking leaders in
these sectors (previous speakers in this series have come from large
organizations like Levi's, Omidyar Network and Airbnb, as well as unique
start-up social enterprises). The class will consist of six two-hour classes,
with a focus on various industries within social impact. Course topics will
include impact investing, civic tech, social entrepreneurship, and corporate
sustainability among others. The course will also explore functional roles MBAs
can pursue in social impact and provide students with specifics actions they
can take during their first year to further explore the intersection of
business and social impact. Each class will have two to three guest lecturers
and will include a topic overview followed by a panel discussion led by a
moderator. The class is suitable both for students with previous experience in
social impact and students exploring the sector for the first time.
