AUDIENCE: Students looking to
explore a potential career path in venture capital or for entrepreneurs that
want to obtain a better understanding of the investor ecosystem
CLASS FORMAT: The series will have a
mixed format consisting of guest lecturers / speakers, facilitator lead
fireside chats, panels of industry professionals, and mini-workshops that will
allow students to get some hands-on experience. Our guests will be comprised of
venture capitalists investors representing angel investors, early stage,
growth/late stage, CVCs, and social impact investors.
BASIS FOR FINAL GRADE: Attendance
COURSE OBJECTIVES: The objective of the
course is to provide a brief but holistic view on the venture capital ecosystem
in order for students to have a better understanding of how to navigate this
industry as a potential career path.
COURSE OVERVIEW: This speaker series will
provide students with a basic overview of the venture capital industry. We will
walk through the history of VC, common terminology, typical responsibilities,
types of investment funds, stages of investments and some major players. The
central focus is to provide students with foundational knowledge on how to
begin exploring the VC industry as a potential career.
