ABSTRACT OF COURSE'S CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES:
Intellectual Property has become an essential legal and business tool
for companies across the world to protect their ideas and to create
business opportunity. Moreover, managing intellectual property well is
a complex and cross-functional activity that requires strategy,
organization design, valuation, invention, law and commercialization
expertise. This course is designed to introduce managers to the many
facets of IP management, and to introduce the context for driving value
in the enterprise. Guest speakers include Vice Presidents and managers
from well-known companies who will introduce their company programs and
explore how IP is best managed for value.
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:
Patrick H. Sullivan Jr., Partner, ICMG
Mr. Sullivan has been involved with the field of intellectual capital
management since 1990, performing strategic, data and economic analyses
for litigation, economic and technology firms. In his role as a partner
at ICMG, he is responsible for the intellectual asset portfolio
management and analysis practices as well as the ICMG e-services
initiatives. He has prior experiences with Hewlett-Packard as the
Internet Channel Development Manager, where he built HP's North
American channel strategy for computer products sold across the
Internet. Mr. Sullivan has conducted economic and financial analyses
requiring complex data sets, including custom built data analysis
tools. He is also an active presenter with the Licensing Executives
Society and publishes several articles per year in the field of
intellectual capital management. He holds an undergraduate degree in
Applied Mathematics from the University of California, San Diego, and
an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of
California, Berkeley.
