ABSTRACT OF COURSE'S CONTENT AND
OBJECTIVES:
The focus of the class will
be to bring to light issues and strategies that the many different sectors of
the healthcare field are facing in response to both health reform and the
economic/market changes that are occurring whether or not all provisions of
health reform legislation are enacted. The U.S. healthcare marketplace is
changing dramatically as a result of a combination of economic drivers,
clinical and technical advances and policy activities at the state and federal
level. The course will educate the students about how the various sub-sectors
of the healthcare marketplace are innovating and evolving in response to these
changes, in part to better predict the "winners" in the healthcare
economy going forward. Areas covered will include: health reform, insurance,
provider systems, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, information technology and
other related sectors in the healthcare field.
