This course will meet on the
following dates: 8/27, 9/3, 9/10, 9/17, 9/24, 10/1, and 10/8.
PREREQUISITE(S): None
CLASS FORMAT: This seven-week
speaker series features Associate to Manager-level marketers who will share the
function of marketing in their company/industry and review a real-life case
with the class. Each class will have one to two speakers from various
industries (CPG, Tech, Retail, Healthcare, etc.) with the goal of
educating students on the variety of career opportunities in marketing, across
industries, functions, and geographies.
At the end of each class, Q&A
with the presenters will take place, during which students will be expected to
contribute to classroom discussion. After class the speakers will go out to
dinner with a small group of 4-6 students for networking or further discussion.
REQUIRED READINGS/ASSIGNMENT:
Students attending dinner with the speaker will be required to give a quick
introduction at the beginning of class and provide a 1-2 page company overview
to all class members prior to the class session. All class attendees are required
to review the company overview prior to class.
BASIS FOR FINAL GRADE: Course will
be graded on a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory basis and will be based on:
attendance*, company write-up and speaker introductions and class
participation.
*Students may only miss one class.

ABSTRACT OF COURSE'S CONTENT AND
OBJECTIVES:
The objective of this course it to expose students to various marketing career tracks, functions, and skill sets through structured presentations and cases by marketing professionals. Through the discussions that follow the presentations, students will have the opportunity to explore the landscape of professional opportunities in marketing or MBAs and gain valuable advice from real-world practitioners on their roles and responsibilities. Learn the language and key concepts of marketing and network with some of the most well-known companies from various industries. Please note that this course is only open to members of the Haas Marketing Club (if you are not a member, you need only pay the $40 fee to become one).
