ABSTRACT OF COURSE'S CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES: The Social Impact Speaker Series will
introduce students to a number of leaders within the social impact space. Speakers will hail from the public, private,
philanthropic and nonprofit sectors across domestic and international
organizations and will include some of the most forward thinking leaders in
these sectors (previous speakers in this series have come from Levi's, FSG
Social Impact Advisors, Education Pioneers, and REDF). The class will consist of twelve two-hour
classes, with a focus on various industries within social impact and on
functional roles MBAs can pursue in social impact. Each class will have two to three guest
lecturers and will include a topic overview and then move into a panel
discussion where a moderator will lead the conversation on each specific topic.
The purpose of the series is to help students understand the role MBAs can play in driving social innovation and different career paths in the social impact space. As a bonus, students should walk away from the class with a good understanding of student organizations, classes, internships, projects, etc that social-impact oriented students can take advantage of while at Haas. The Social Impact Speaker Series is being offered for the second year at Haas sponsored by Net Impact, IDEC, Education Club and GSVC with the goal of building a strong, unified and innovative social impact community on campus.
