CLASS FORMAT: Speaker series presentations, with ample time for questions and answers.

 

BASIS FOR FINAL GRADE:

 

This is a 1 credit pass/not pass course.  To pass, you must not miss more than one class (attendance will be taken). In addition you will be required to present, in groups, one short company briefing, submit one relevant question prior to each class and fill out course surveys.

 

Company briefing: Each student will be required to create and present one 10 minute briefing about the speaker’s company and products. The intention of the briefing is to familiarize students with best practices for interview preparation and to facilitate deeper class discussion with the speaker.

 

The course is anchored by having high quality guest speakers.  Please show respect by coming to class having spent a few minutes reading about the speaker and what they do.  Additionally, there will occasionally be dinners following class, to provide a small group of students the opportunity to network in a more intimate setting with the guest speaker. Instructions for signing up for dinners will be discussed prior to the first class.

 

ABSTRACT OF COURSE'S OBJECTIVES AND CONTENT:

 

Course objectives:

 

          Gain an understanding of the different leadership roles involved in a bringing a successful digital media product to market from both industry and functional perspectives

          Learn about some of the most successful and exciting companies in digital media in the Bay area and throughout California

          Prepare students for product leadership interviews (intern and full-time) as well as help students make career decisions

 

This course is designed to present an overview of the different roles involved in leading Internet and digital media products (such as Product Management, Product Marketing, Internet Marketing and Business Development) and examine current best practices.
