REQUIRED READINGS: Students are expected to come to class with a general understanding of each speaker’s background. Students should also be prepared to participate in the Q&A session that will follow each speaker’s presentation.

ABSTRACT OF COURSE'S CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES: The objective of MBA294.3 is to provide students with a general introduction to the various roles and segments of the real estate industry through the perspective of local Bay Area real estate professionals.  In particular, we will touch on the largest industry roles which include development, investment and acquisitions, asset management, financing, architecture and planning, policy, as well as the largest asset classes including commercial, residential, mixed-use, and retail.

 

Topics discussed will include an overview of the speaker’s particular market segment, relevant case studies of properties, current industry trends, and career path strategies. Students are expected to come to class with a general understanding of the speaker’s background, ask questions that will clarify material included in the formal presentation and raise issues not otherwise covered.

 

This course is appropriate for students interested in gaining a practical overview of the real estate industry as well as for first and second year students intent on pursuing careers in the industry. For real estate focused students, MBA 294.21 will serve as the foundation for Berkeley’s Accelerating Careers in Real Estate (ACRE) Program.
