CLASS FORMAT: This 294 course is seven weeks focusing on Human Centered Design for Social Innovation.  Each class has a two hour workshop, and then some preparation for the following weeks. 

 

COURSE OVERVIEW: IDEO.org & Acumen will determine three challenge options, one of which the class will choose.  Over the course of seven weeks, students will go through the human centered design process to come up with a solution to that challenge.  Teams of four will together throughout the duration of the course.  Week 1 is Introduction to Human Centered Design.  Weeks 2 and 3 are the Discover phase.  Week 4 is Ideate.  Weeks 5 & 6 are Prototyping.  Week 7 is Moving Forward.  

 

BASIS FOR FINAL GRADE: Attendance

 

ABSTRACT OF COURSE CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES: This 294 course will follow a structure laid about by IDEO.org and Acumen and bring this online class to Haas.  Students will practice human centered design and design thinking for Social Innovation.  Groups of four will work together on a challenge over seven weeks.  Students will get hands-on experience speaking to, prototyping for, and testing solutions with potential users.  This course builds on methods taught in Problem Finding, Problem Solving.
