ABSTRACT OF COURSE'S
CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES:
Social Sector Solutions (S3) develops students’ skills in management
consulting, problem solving, persuasion, and project management, while
increasing their knowledge of the entrepreneurial challenges of leading
nonprofit, public or social enterprise organizations. In this unique experiential
learning course, students tackle complex projects for real clients, on teams
receiving coaching from experienced faculty and McKinsey consultants.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES:
Joe Dougherty is a Partner at Dalberg Advisors in San Francisco. He has served as an advisor to social
enterprises, government agencies, foundations and corporations for 20 years and
has worked in more than 30 countries. Joe is a lecturer at Haas who has
taught nonprofit strategy and leadership, management consulting and more. Joe
also teaches courses in consulting skills and project management at the Johns
Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.
Nora Silver is Adjunct Professor and
Director of the Center for Social Sector
Leadership at Haas. She brings over 30 years of
leadership experience as a two-time social sector founder,
executive director, board member, and funder
of social sector organizations. She has consulted
internationally with more than 200 organizations, authored books and articles
on leadership and community involvement and lectured at universities and
conferences around the world.
