CAREER
FIELD: This course will be useful for all data
driven decision makers. The key competitive differentiator for companies today
is the data it collects about its prospects and customers and how it leverages
that information to personalize marketing, lifecycle management and product
offering or optimize functionalities like customer support and supply chain.
Business decision makers need the skill to
analyze data to make these key decisions (E.g., How many active customers did
we have last month, What products did they buy, How
many returns did we process last year etc). SQL is the most universal language used to
query and analyze data. Most companies have started expecting and making SQL
part of the business role interview requirements.
CLASS
FORMAT: Hands-on SQL learning in-class including HW
assignments and an in-class final exam. You will also get to hear from the Head
of Vendor Analytics at Facebook about the role of Analytics/SQL at Facebook.

ABSTRACT
OF COURSE CONTENT & OBJECTIVES:
This course will cover all SQL basics. More
than theory, we will be going directly for real world practical application
that will help you. It will aid you in navigating data and answer key questions
with little dependency on others. Students will walk away with a hands-on
experience of SQL as well as an understanding of key terminologies and areas
that will help them demonstrate the fluency & expertise being increasingly
expected of business decision makers in the working environment. We will be
covering the following topics in the course:
This will be a heavy hands-on class. So, you
will need a laptop and we will be going through a lot of examples to help
understand each part of the syntax.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:
Roopesh
Varier is a data professional with 16+ years of
industry experience across multiple Fortune 500 companies. He has setup and run
data science and analytics divisions in technology, finance, entertainment
& healthcare industries. He was responsible for setting up the initial big
data warehouse in Symantec as well as scaling and driving the adoption of big
data across American Express. Today, Roopesh heads
the Data Science & Analytics for Willowpump – a
high growth healthcare IoT startup. He also advises various analytics related
startups in the Valley.
Roopesh
uses his expertise in analytics & data science to tap into value hidden in
the data and use it to attract new customers, keep them engaged and enhance
product experience by personalizing the information provided to prospects and
customers. His work influences all strategic aspects of the company from
finance, marketing, supply chain, customer support to product functionality.
