ABSTRACT OF COURSE'S CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES:
This course introduces students to the political and social (nonmarket) environment of business in the United States, Europe, and Japan. Topics include domestic political institutions and policymaking, corporate political strategies, government regulation and deregulation, industrial policy, trade policy making, and international institutions.  The course focuses on how executives should design and implement complementary market and nonmarket strategies.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:

Vinod Aggarwal is Professor in the Department of Political Science, Affiliated Professor of Business and Public Policy in the Haas School of Business, and Director of the Berkeley Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Study Center (BASC) at the University of California at Berkeley.  He founded and is currently Editor-in-Chief of the journal Business and Politics. Prof. Aggarwal received his B.A. from the University of Michigan and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Stanford University.  He teaches regularly in the MBA program as well as in the Berkeley Executive EducationProgram.  Prof. Aggarwal has consulted with the Mexican Government, the U.S. Department of Commerce, OECD, the Group of Thirty, IFAD, UNCTAD, the World Bank, WTO, and major multinational corporations. He has authored or edited 11 books and published over 45 articles. In 1997, he won the Cheit Outstanding Teaching Award at the Haas School of Business.
