This course is useful for anyone who is interested in going into
the Finance Industry or anyone who plans to innovate in two sided markets or
platforms.
ABSTRACT OF COURSE'S
CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES: FinTech is the process of using
advances in technology to change financial services. In this course, through
lectures, cases, presentations and speakers we will investigate some of the
changes that have happened and those that may happen. The course covers all
aspects of the financial system that are vulnerable to change including
payments, banking, raising capital, insurance, and investing/trading. Throughout,
we will discuss two sided markets and business strategies and
valuation in platforms. We will touch on
smart and alternative data and how it can add value. We will discuss
distributed ledger systems and how they are, and could be used.
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Christine
A. Parlour is the Sylvan C. Coleman Professor of Finance and
Accounting. Her current focus is on changes in the payments system and the
effects of this on bank balance sheets and macro-prudential
regulation. She has been on the Nasdaq Economic Advisory Board,
provided guidance to the SEC and is currently on the steering committee for the
New Special Study of Securities Markets.
