ABSTRACT OF COURSE'S CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES: FinTech is the process of using advances in technology to change financial services. In this course, through lectures, cases, presentations and speakers we will investigate some of the changes. We will discuss two sided markets and business strategies when the winner takes all. We will cover how the payments system works and how it is changing domestically and internationally with front end payments systems such as square and apple pay, bKash and Mpesa and integrated platforms such as WeChat. We will discuss new technologies such as distributed ledger systems and how they are and could be used by institutions and organizations and some of the innovations in consumer lending and banking. 

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Christine A. Parlour is the Sylvan C. Coleman chair in Finance and accounting. Her research has focused on market design, and has been published in numerous scholarly journals. She was a visiting economist at the SEC and served as a board member on Nasdaq.
