BASIS FOR FINAL GRADE:Midterm, final exam, class participation
ABSTRACT OF COURSE'S CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES: This course attemps to add
to your understanding of life in complex organizations by covering topics
spanning the micro, or individual level of analysis (e.g., motivating
employees, making effective decisions, matching compensation to jobs), the
macro, or organizational level of analysis (e.g., designing an organization to
fit with strategic objectives), and also topics that integrate these two levels
(e.g., managing with power and developing a strong culture). The
orientation of the course is managerial, focusing on th processes necessary to
organize, motivate, and lead people engaged in collective activities. The
emphasis is on the development of concepts and strategies that will help you
become a more effective leader.
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Nancy Euske is a faculty member in the
Organizational Behavior and Industrial Relations and Business and Public Policy
groups. Her research interests are in organizational recruitment,
socialization, and culture. She consults with business, public and
nonprofit organizations. She received her Ph.D. in Business
Administration from U.C. Berkeley.
