GRADE: Case write ups, class participation, group project, and final project.
ABSTRACT OF COURSE'S
CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES: This award-winning
interdisciplinary course (i) provides you with a framework for business
analysis and valuation using financial statement data, and (ii) shows you how
to apply this framework to a variety of business decisions. The course assumes
that you have a good working knowledge of accounting, finance, economics, and
business strategy. The focus is on integrating key concepts from each of these
areas and applying them to financial decision-making.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH: Panos
N. Patatoukas is a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Accounting & Finance
at the Haas School of Business. Prior to joining Haas, Panos received his Ph.D.
in Accounting & Finance from Yale
University. Panos’
research interests overlap with his M.B.A. teaching at Haas and his course on
Financial Information Analysis has proven to be an invaluable source of new
research ideas. Panos’ research informs questions related to (i) fundamental
analysis using financial data, (ii) portfolio trading strategies using
financial information analysis, (iii) forecasting economic activity both at the
firm level and the macroeconomic level, as well as (iv) stock market valuation
both at the firm level and at the aggregate level. Panos has won several
research and teaching awards including the Earl
F. Cheit Outstanding Teaching Award, which is the highest teaching award
bestowed upon instructors by the M.B.A. students at the Haas School of
Business, and the Schwabacher Award for
Distinction in Research and Teaching, which is the highest honor for
distinction in research and teaching bestowed upon Assistant Professors. Since
his appointment, Panos has produced several top-tier publications and a series
of working papers (available at http://sites.google.com/site/panossom/). Panos is currently also
serving as the Ph.D. Field Advisor for the Accounting Group at Haas and is
mentoring several graduate studies.
